Deep Water: The Murder Ballads
True tales of seduction and revenge come to life in three dance theater pieces by choreographer E.E. Balcos and composer John Allemeier. These contemporary works are inspired by 19th-century murder ballads, narrative folk songs from North Carolina that chronicle the disastrous consequences of love gone wrong. Past and present converge when traditional musician Riley Baugus performs the original ballads "Omie Wise," "Poor Ellen Smith," and "Frankie Silver" as preludes to these stunning interpretations.
Stories of murder and themes of violence are depicted in modern choreography. Not recommended for children under 7.
